Christkind

Today for the Holidays I wanted to write about the Christkind (Niño Dios or Ježíšek), a Christmas gift bringer in protestant Central Europe and southern Brazil.

During the Protestant reformation Martin Luther was searching for a way to remove Saint Nicholas/Santa Claus from christmas festivals so he proposed the idea of the Christ Child coming and bringing fruits on Christmas eve. The tradition quickly became popular and is now common in about 16 countries.

Christkind is also the origin for the American Kris Kringle.
