Tannin

Welcome Dragon Week 2: Electric Boogaloo, starting with Tannin, a Canaanite and Abrahamic Sea Serpent/Dragon of chaos.

In the Baal cycle, Tannin is a servant of Yam who is defeated by Ba’al and Anat. In Abrahamic sources, Tannin was created with the other creatures of the sea and is later mentioned in the book of Isaiah.

He is sometimes considered the same as Leviathan, or that Leviathan is a Tannina.

Although Tannin is often translated as whale, snake, or dragon in English bibles (depending on the verse), tannin is used by modern Hebrew speaking communities as a word for crocodile.
