Today I wanted to write about Sophia, a figure representative of wisdom in gnosticism, Christian theology, as well as neo-platonic philosophy.
Sophia is often described by Christians as the feminine incarnation or counterpart to the Holy Spirit. She’s is sometimes labelled as the fourth part of the Trinity. Some sects also label her as the bride of Christ.
In hellenism she’s a primordial goddess of wisdom closely linked with Metis and Athena.
Sophia is a popular figure in various wiccan groups.
There is a Saint Sophia who is sometimes combined with Sophia.
