Astarte

I haven’t written about any Canaanite deities before and Astarte, a goddess of love, beauty, sex, fertility, war, the moon, and the planet Venus, seamed like a good place to [A]start[e].

Astarte was worshipped by many Semitic people each having their own myths relating to her. In the Phoenician pantheon she’s a daughter of Epigeius and Ge. After her cult spread into Egypt she was considered a daughter of Ra.

Astarte has been historically synchronized with many other goddesses, including: Aphrodite/Venus, Ishtar, Uni, Attar, Athirat, Atargatis, Artimpasa, Sekhmet, Ariadne, and Allat.

She had a temple in Sidon where she was worshipped alongside Eshmun and the Greek god Poseidon.
