Maponos

With it being around Mabon I wanted to write about the deity the sabbat is named after, Mabon ap Modron, but Mabon ap Modron is more of a figure from Arthurian legends so I’m instead writing about Maponos, a British and Gaulish celtic god that Mabon ap Modron took inspiration from. Maponos is a celticContinue reading “Maponos”

Epona

Today I wanted to write about Epona, a Gaulish goddess of horses, ponies, donkeys, mules, fertility, and grain. She’s has two tamed horses and wears garland made of roses. She’s was sometimes synchronized with Cybele and is associated with the celtic goddess Rhiannon. She was not only worshipped by the Gauls but the Roman asContinue reading “Epona”

Belisama

I feel like I don’t write about many celtic deities so today I’m writing about Belisama, a Gaulish river goddess. She’s believed to be the companion of Belenus. She was synchronized with Minerva. Her worship started in southern France but it eventually spread through the Roman empire and into Britain. Sources: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belisama?wprov=sfla1

Nantosuelta

I feel like I don’t write about many celtic deities but wanted to change that by writing about Nantosuelta, a goddess of the earth, fire, water, the sun, fertility, and nature. She carries a round house symbolising her connection to faeries. She’s often connected to the Morrígan with some suggesting they’re one in the same.Continue reading “Nantosuelta”

Belenus

Happy Beltane. Today I wanted to write about the god of this sabbat, Belenus, a Celtic sun god. He’s possibly married to the river goddess Belisama. Belenus was often synchronized with Apollo by the Romans. He has an asteroid named after him. He’s an important deity in many celtic paths with his worship being documentedContinue reading “Belenus”
